There are always areas in my photography where I would I love to see improvements. One of the areas I’ve been working diligently on is posing. Not because I prefer the overly posed look in my photos, but because I find directing my subjects always helps them relax in front of the camera. They no longer feel like they are on the spot if you’re taking charge and telling them what to do and how to do it. Luckily, I happened to stumble upon glamour photographer extraordinaire Sue Bryce and her amazing Creative Live course on the subject. It completely changed the way I interact with my subjects throughout our sessions. Here are a just few of those posing techniques I learned at work during a fun little set I took of my sister Charlotte. It’s amazing how a slight variation can lead to so many different and equally beautiful results.
Equipped with a reflector and blow dryer (for some added hair drama!), we produced about 25 different images in one little corner of my living room. Curtains and front door opened to let in tons of gorgeous natural light. Remember, there’s never a need for fancy equipment or locations- work with what you’ve got and just have fun!
Amy - Though more of a snapshotographer, I always try to snap photos when people are unaware–because when they become aware, too often they panic. :) So a little direction could help a lot–thanks!
Buckeroomama - Gorgeous, gorgeous natural light you have… and gorgeous shots of your lovely sister! :)
The Guilty Hyena - You all as siblings look very alike, particularly the lovely beaming smiles. The reflector looks a handy piece of kit, to enhance natural light.
Life with Kaishon - Beautiful posing Maddy! LOVE her hair. And her smile!
Charisma Moran - That natural light in your home is gorgeous!
