Even though Mykonos has plenty of gorgeous beaches, you are sure to find a multitude of beautiful beaches anywhere in the world. But what you won’t find is the crazy labyrinth of shops, restaurants, nightclubs, apartments and churches that make up Mykonos Town (or what the locals call Chora) – my favorite attraction of the island. The narrow winding alleys were built back in the 16th century to confuse invading pirates and now make the perfect maze for shoppers during the day and party-goers at night, while the whitewashed architecture adds to the Mediterranean charm – it’s really unlike anything I’ve seen before. You’ll never know what you’ll find at the turn of a corner – but it’s always bound to be a pleasant surprise! Unfortunately, most of my pictures of Mykonos Town are during the day, so I’m afraid you won’t get the full “night-time” experience from these photos. But I can tell you this, it’s the beating heart of the nightlife scene in Mykonos. The music comes at you from every direction and there’s a multitude of people wandering the alleys, jumping from one stop to the next in search of food, drinks or dancing. The options are endless, so it’s easy to lose track of the time and stay out until the wee hours of the morning – like I did! If you ever have the opportunity to visit Mykonos, Chora is definitely a must see stop on your trip!

lou - i know exactly what you mean. that’s why i love sardinia so much. beaches are nice but what drives me is to get to know the places were people live. narrow streets are great. i remember once in sardinia… we were walking down one of those tiny narrow streets… the smell of pasta… the laundry hung between the windows… a mother was screaming at a kid…. somewhere was music. you don’t have that at the beach.
