I kept repeating to her “smile with your eyes”. Every now then, I’d get the “are you crazy? what are you talking about?!” look, but I kept repeating it like a broken record and demonstrating how it’s done. I’m quite the expert “eye smiler” at this point, but it’s hard trying to explain the concept to an 8 year old. I even went as far as asking her to show me the look she would give her celebrity crush, Justin Bieber, if he walked into the room. For the record, it resembled this – not quite the look I was going for. But after much trial and error, we finally got it and it was perfect! You see, smiling with your eyes is truly an art form. It projects differently for everyone. It can look subtle, coy, flirty, mischievous, warm or inviting. But it’s always fascinating! It’s the look that keeps you coming back for more and one I love to capture.

Erica F. - I definitely need to practice smiling with my eyes. I’m horrible at it since I can’t even smile without showing my teeth. lol
Life with Kaishon - I think eye smiling is absolutely vital to beautiful portraiture. Love this image Maddy. Love your heart. Love your eye smiles and your outlook on life. You are a blessing.
