PORTRAIT OF THE WEEK // 7
52 Faces Project • Dawn Marie

I had the pleasure of working with Dawn Marie for a little while. There was never a dull moment when she was around!  Everyday was a new adventure and we  always had hundreds of things to laugh about. I miss working with her on a daily basis, but we still keep in touch and make it a point to see each other every now and then.  She is more than a friend – she is family.  Today I want you to say a little prayer for her because she’s making a decision every pet owner dreads and will be soon be saying goodbye to her longtime friend and companion, her kitty Genesis.  Auntie Dawn:  many big hugs going your way… love you!

Life with Kaishon - Oh no. I just prayed for her. I know I am late to this, so I prayed that she is dealing with such a great sadness. Auntie Dawn is a beautiful woman. I love how her eyes are lit up with happiness. She looks like she is TONS of fun!

STYLE SNAPSHOT // 5
Pretty Plaids

Today I’m bringing you another installment of the Style Snapshot series – a joint collaboration with my sister, the beauty and brains behind Cindy’s Little Black Book! When I think of plaid (or tartan if you’re feeling fancy), immediately images from the 90’s come to mind. I grew up when punk rock and grunge were all the rage and when plaid was a wardrobe staple .  However,  the plaid trend has come a long way since then.  Even though it can still be very hipster, we are now  seeing more polished and refined pieces on the market. I love that it can be casual and like anything, it can easily be dressed up with a few simple accessories.  Let’s see how Cindy used plaid to style this month’s look:

PORTRAIT OF THE WEEK // 6
52 Faces Project • Yami

It’s Week 6 of the 52 Faces Project and I’m thrilled that I haven’t dropped the ball on this!  This week I had the pleasure of photograoghing Yami….in midday sun! I would’ve NEVER dared to do that when I started I first started off a few years ago.  Midday sun usually means raccoon eyes and harsh shadows.  But the key is to place your subject in an open shaded area and a reflector placed directly in front of your subject bouncing indirect light back on to their face.  I used my collapsible reflector in this case, but snow is an awesome natural reflector if you don’t have a reflector handy.

Sarah - It’s so cool to hear how you’ve progressed into new territory since you started – I have NO idea how to photograph in any light whatsoever :-) Beautiful as always!

Maddy {Mad Hearts Photography} - I think that’s one of the coolest things about blogging! I love seeing how all of my blog buddies are progressing in their areas of expertise- yourself included! I loved watching your business grow from online based to your designs being in brick & mortar shops and then having a physical office space ! You are truly an inspiration :)

Life with Kaishon - Oh yes! I love the snow as a reflector! Now, I do not love it so much when I have to shovel it, but it does make for nice light effects. This picture looks almost beachy! You did a beautiful job. Yami has a lovely smile. So peaceful. Very beautiful!
