TODAY: We’re Sofa Shopping!

We love our current sofa and have enjoyed it to the max! It was a hand-me down given to us by my sister-in-law and brother-in-law when we moved into our first apartment together – a major upgrade from the small Ikea sofa I purchased right out of college. We have spent many Friday nights curled up on it. Our overnight […]

Tiera - Fun! I love the 2nd one on the left, the one with the tufting on the back. And the one with the recliner built in seems pretty awesome!

January 17, 2012 - 8:37 am

Cafe Fashionista - Gah! I love seeing completely furnished rooms, but I tell you I am so not a good furniture shopper. I went sofa shopping with my mother once and wanted to die. Haha! :P

January 17, 2012 - 9:44 am

Amy - I can only imagine how hard it would be to find the perfect sofa, seeing how my taste would be in the middle of you two. I’m all for comfort and snuggling down in . . . yet I don’t want it to look frumpy. :)

I can’t wait to see which one you end up with . . . good luck!

January 17, 2012 - 10:49 am

Maddy {Mad Hearts Photography} - The 2nd on the left was my favorite, but Kleber hated it! Said it wasn’t comfy and too fancy for our living room :( I’ll sacrifice a little comfort for some pretty eye candy.

January 17, 2012 - 10:50 am

Maddy {Mad Hearts Photography} - That’s what we’re searching for now (the best of both worlds), but it’s harder than it looks. I definitely want to avoid “frumpy” by all means :)

January 17, 2012 - 10:53 am

Angelia Sims - I think he likes the recliner couch. :-) Shopping for something cool that you will spend a lot of time on is important and tough. I don’t envy the process. Have fun! Can’t wait to see what you get. :-)

January 17, 2012 - 11:08 am

Life with Kaishon - It is so fun to watch you do all of these homey things : ) I LOVE it!

January 17, 2012 - 11:18 am

The Guilty Hyena - I love the smell of new furnishings, my imagination runs wild at showrooms, though the toughest thing to narrow down is one certain look or style and comfort factor. Oh and I forgot the sofa Scotchgard to protect it against stains. I do love the whole process, I hear that not everyone does.

January 17, 2012 - 11:37 am

Mindy - nothing like sofa shopping to really get you noticing differences in your significant other! One of our biggest disagreements has been over the color of our counter and whether its gray or olive green (and clearly its olive green), but its pretty funny that after 10+ years of marriage we still see little things so differently. and, dont get me started on TV shopping….
enjoy your shopping :)

January 17, 2012 - 12:17 pm

Gloria - I love the look of white sofas, but I know for a fact I’d go nuts trying to keep it pristine! We currently have a light gray sofa which I’m really happy with :-)

January 17, 2012 - 1:56 pm

Camila Faria - I have to agree with Gloria, I love the idea of a white sofa, but it’s not pratical at all. I miss shopping for furniture. For the look on Kleber’s face, I think you guys are having a great time sofa shopping!

January 17, 2012 - 2:12 pm

Christina Lee - OH I’m so confused!!! Good luck :D

January 17, 2012 - 8:11 pm

Sarah - Dodeline Design - Oh what fun! I am about ready to get a new sofa, but am waiting to get the house first :-) It’s a big deal! Love the ones you’re looking at!

January 17, 2012 - 8:26 pm

Irma - Enjoy your shopping!

I like the first and the last one. Just saying

God Bless your New Home

Love Irma

January 18, 2012 - 12:44 am

Donna - Tryng them out is the best part! I was very close to getting the left one, bottom row in the first set of pics.. But went with a west elm one instead because of the genuine leather. Good luck!

January 18, 2012 - 3:27 am

Leia - We went sofa shopping over the weekend, too! I finally found something that I love, but it’s going to take three weeks to get it reupholstered. Please show us what you finally choose! :)

January 18, 2012 - 9:15 am

Elle sees - I’ve been mattress shopping recently. And the info on my great granny was in the post below the one you commented on. She’s doing so much better! But not like she used to be. :(

January 18, 2012 - 1:16 pm

Nadette@Eat, Read, Rant! - Oh furniture shopping can be super frustrating, especially when there’s a difference in styles. I’m with yout, clean lines and contemporary sillouettes, so does my vote count? But I’m so excited for the house coming along, I have to admit, a part of me is envious. I’ll just live vicariously through you two!

January 18, 2012 - 1:22 pm

camille - a sofa is everything! the one i have is really comfortable, but it’s proven to be too stuffy for summer in Rio! and i’m on your side, i’m also not a big fan of lots of pillows! lol

January 18, 2012 - 2:52 pm

Maddy {Mad Hearts Photography} - We were looking at West Elm sofas too, but the bad reviews kind of scared me away. Hope your experience was pleasant and that you love your sofa :)

January 18, 2012 - 2:53 pm

Maddy {Mad Hearts Photography} - Hopefully, she will make a full recovery in no time :)

{Mad About …}

Not only are these IKEA’s bestseller, they also happened to be splattered all over the web and have entire Pinterest boards dedicated to their versatility and overall awesomeness.  I’ve always loved built-in bookcases, but I’m not a fan of the large price tag that comes with having them custom-made. This is where IKEA comes to the rescue! You […]

Keeley - We just bought a set in black/brown yesterday! We’re using a design from ikeahackers.net to make them into a home bar! I didn’t know they were so popular. Yours look great in white!

Not the biggest ikea fan in the world, but totally in love with those book shelves. I am going to pin your shelves right this second Maddy licious! : ) Happy Sunday. Today is Kaishon’s birthday party. Say a prayer for him. He has been having a hard time with friends lately. Very stressful. Times 100. XO

January 15, 2012 - 3:19 pm

Maddy {Mad Hearts Photography} - I hope he has a wonderful party and that everything goes smoothly – I’m sure it will :)

January 15, 2012 - 4:38 pm

kat - I love how IKEA makes something simple yet so useful. Their shelves have been the bestsellers of all time (OF ALL TIME! – kanye joke hehehe)

January 15, 2012 - 7:03 pm

Buckeroomama - That looks lovely! I really like how you used the bottles as accents. I wish I could say our bookshelves look as neat and clean. Ours have stickers stuck all over them!

January 15, 2012 - 8:52 pm

Sarah - Dodeline Design - So jealous! I love those things. Unfortunately IKEA is a ways away from my current city and I’ve yet to get any. One day I will!! Yours look beautiful!

January 16, 2012 - 4:30 am

Leia - I soooo wish we had an ikea here, this looks amazing!

January 16, 2012 - 12:08 pm

The Guilty Hyena - Looks lovely and inviting, can’t wait to see more spaces you’ve created around your new home. Ikea is straight up Scandinavian institution gone global…and it does it so well!! I love the fact that it made design accessible to everyone.

January 16, 2012 - 12:31 pm

January 18, 2012 - 1:17 pm

TODAY: One Thing at a Time

It’s been two months since we moved into the house and as expected, things are progressing slowly and surely. Upon moving, we were eager to begin the process of renovating immediately.  But after jumping into the first project with little research, too many unplanned and costly trips to the Home Depot and a few tears of […]

January 10, 2012 - 12:13 am

Angelia Sims - Well, ya’ll look too cute in your “work” on the house projects. I think it will all mean so much more to you when finished, since you are doing it yourself. Way to go!!

January 10, 2012 - 2:09 am

Tiera - MASSIVE project! Taking it one one thing at a time sounds like a good plan :) Good luck, and can’t wait to see the results!

January 10, 2012 - 7:19 am

Camila Faria - One (baby) step at a time, right? I know how that works. Good luck guys!

January 10, 2012 - 7:51 am

dana - Looks like a bit of fun and a whole lot of work! Glad to have you back blogging :)

January 10, 2012 - 8:07 am

Amy - Just keep telling yourself, if will be oh-so fabulous when it’s all said and done. I’ll look forward to seeing some of your projects here . . . who knows? Maybe it will inspire me to get a few things done! :)

January 10, 2012 - 8:12 am

Keeley @ My Life on a Plate - From what I can see, you two have a BEAUTIFUL home! I’m a big fan of taking the time to live in a house before tackling too many overwhelming (and expensive) projects. We’ve lived in our home for about 7 years and although we are ready to move on, I love that it took us years of painting, replacing, and re-arranging areas to get to where we are today. We took our time and budgeted and I realized that you may think you know exactly what you want to do with a room, your tastes and needs will change.

January 10, 2012 - 8:55 am

Cafe Fashionista - One day at a time sounds like the perfect solution for your project, Maddy – especially if it leaves more time for blogging! :)

January 10, 2012 - 9:26 am

Sarah - Ahh home improvement…what fun! I am the same way…I want it amazing immediately and way overwork myself. Try to enjoy it, and we missed you around here so don’t go too crazy! :-)

January 10, 2012 - 10:24 am

Gloria - What an AWESOME feeling it will be to look around your finished house and think “We did that! And that! And that!…” So impressed!

January 10, 2012 - 10:44 am

Hannah B - Oh man, I know exactly where you are coming from. I have a hard time focusing on one project if I have a million going at once so I made it a habit, in the home décor arena, to focus on one manageable task at a time…just like you said.

Congrats on having a space to make your own!

January 10, 2012 - 2:04 pm

Mishck - Take a breather!!!! No need to rush:) moooooo-shaaaaa

January 10, 2012 - 2:51 pm

tinajo - I know the feeling – but it will become so great in the end! :-)

January 10, 2012 - 3:01 pm

Elle sees - I would love to own a house and DIY, all younghouselove.com style. Good luck!

January 11, 2012 - 5:09 am

Buckeroomama - Kudos to you two for tackling it yourselves! I have a feeling that it’s going to turn out wonderfully. :)

January 11, 2012 - 11:56 am

rooth - Splitting it up into smaller manageable pieces seems like the much smarter idea. Thanks for sharing the photos and can’t wait to see each room’s transformation

January 11, 2012 - 2:45 pm

Sabine - Right you are, Maddy. It’s your house which means there is no rush… and I think it looks very cosy already.

January 12, 2012 - 9:39 pm

Nadette - Wow, you make home rennovation look fun. But my sister has a fixer upper, I know better, lol. Happy House fixing!
